I almost forgot to record today. I was literally on my way to brush my teeth when I checked the clock, panicked that I'd break my streak. (laughs) I don't even know why I care so much about this little heatmap, but it does keep the discipline alive. My first entry was back on April 21st. It's been about four months now, at least one entry every single day, through so much mess and so many stories.
My legs are screaming today. Yesterday I just did bodyweight squats at home, but I did them super slow, squeezing the quads instead of bouncing off the tendons. Did over a hundred reps. The DOMS hit hard today, though I completely missed my hamstrings — I'll have to hit the machines for those later. That soreness was part of why I skipped the gym this morning, that and just being too lazy to back the car out of the driveway.
I was reviewing Japanese verbs when my brother asked me to run an errand with him. We had to take some renovation materials down to the pier to ship over to our bungalows on Koh Jum.
On the way back, we swung by one of our rental houses. My brother noticed the rent was overdue, the electric bill hadn't been paid, and then this morning he saw the tenant had quietly left the Line group. Sure enough, we pulled up and the place was completely deserted. (laughs) The guy had vanished. At least the house wasn't trashed and nothing was stolen — he even left the keys inside on the counter, along with a little pile of trash.
It's my first time dealing with a runner. My brother had felt bad for the guy because he claimed he'd been scammed on a previous rental, so we agreed to let him pay the security deposit in three installments. In Bangkok condos, you always demand two months upfront as a deposit, non-negotiable. Here, being soft-hearted backfired: he stayed one month, bolted on the second, left us with his unpaid power bill, and had only paid a fraction of the deposit. Pure out-of-pocket loss, but a good lesson in screening. Rental demand around here is high anyway, so once we clean it up, finding someone won't be hard. I think we'll set up Wi-Fi and put a security camera out front, too, since there have been rumors of petty theft in that neighborhood.
We didn't get home until after one or two in the afternoon, and I still hadn't eaten. My first meal was around three — just snacking on leftover steamed curry fish cake from yesterday's market to tide me over, because my mom was busy simmering a pork stew that needed time to get melt-in-your-mouth tender.
By evening, I dragged myself to the gym for an hour of incline walking. It was a Sunday, and even though the mall was packed, the taekwondo competition from yesterday was finally over, so parking was easy. The gym floor was almost empty, just a small group taking a class.
Came home, showered, and finally had dinner: mom's pork stew with pickled mustard greens, ladled with spicy seafood sauce. It was ridiculously good. I didn't even take a photo, just told my mom I'm requesting another whole pot tomorrow. (laughs)
Finished reviewing my Anki decks late tonight, brushed my teeth, and rushed to get this down. Days feel pretty steady lately. When my head gets crowded, I end up venting or asking ridiculous questions to an AI. Now I'm going to put on a podcast, close my eyes, and sleep.
