I'm really torn about Instagram. Not quitting entirely, but changing how I use it. (laughs) How do I even explain this so my future self understands?
I've already cleared out a lot of followers, almost everyone except close friends. Part of me wants to clear the whole board. (laughs) But I'm still scared I'll regret it later, specifically losing old photos and stories.
If it's just about the photos, they're all backed up on Google Photos anyway. Every single one. (laughs) So that's not really the issue.
It's more about how I interact with people. Instagram often acts as a medium, like a business card, for people to get a superficial sense of me.
Is it really a problem? (sighs) I think I just want to improve how I use it, and how people perceive me through it. I'm considering just deleting the account. I've already cleared the followers, that's done. (laughs)
There's an option to deactivate temporarily, but that's not what I really want. I actually want to stop using it because, from my perspective, social media has more downsides than upsides. (sighs)
Other contact methods, like LINE, are better, right? (laughs) Actually, my future self will probably understand this when reading it; it'll trigger the memories. (laughs)
My 'System Two' wants to delete it, but my 'Limbic System' is going to be screaming, 'What are you doing? Why are you deleting it? What about all the memories, and these people?' My brain is definitely going to protest. (laughs)
I do have a backup Instagram account with just friends, and I mostly use it to save photos. That's its main purpose. (laughs)
Will I still be able to talk to people? (sighs) I think I'll make a decision today. There's also an option to download all your data if you're worried about losing information. If I'm going to use this new platform as a journal, then it's not as big a deal. But for interacting with people, that's another story. I just wanted to record this.
